I AM OPEN TO CONSIDERING ALL BIDS...PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR INITIAL PROPOSAL IDEA FOR CONSIDERATION

BUSINESS RESEARCH METHODS:
Initial Business Research Proposal - Outline
The intent of the project is to establish an initial research question and research plan for the topic of your Business Management Project class. Developing a strong research question and designing a solid plan for completing that research, will significantly increase your opportunity
to create a and perform an effective capstone project. Your initial business research proposal should include, but is not limited to, the following sections:
Title Page
Table of Contents Executive Summary Background Information
_Organization
Situational Analysis
_Past
_Current
The Research Question
_Why this question?
_The management dilemma
_Various aspects of the question
_Value
Research Proposal
_Initial Design
_Data Collection Design
_Sampling Design
_Data Analysis Design
Hypothesis
Limitations of Plan / Roadblocks

Discussion Topics
#1. What is the Research Question you will you in your final project? This is a hypothesis that test states the objective of the research. This is also the question that focuses the researcher's attention.
Remember that you are predicting the outcome of the research you are proposing, and it must be in a form that it can be proven true or false. Search for examples in the book and on the internet.
Examples:
* Red cars are pulled over more often than other colored cars. (That's easy to measure, right? Then you could expand your research to find out WHY this happens, or doesn't happen).
* There is a higher job satisfaction between those who receive regular feedback on their job performance and those who receive irregular feedback. (How could you measure this? Would you do an observational study, or a survey?)
* Customers at the XXX drivers license office are less satisfied than customers at the XXX property tax office. (It's clear and could be true/false, but again, how to measure? Is the nature of the office relevant or not?)
Your hypothesis must be measureable. This is not easily measureable: I like good weather. What is good? What does "like"mean? Is there a scale? How would you measure if I liked something scientifically? There are too many IV and DV that would complicate the research. Make your hypothesis clear. The more clear the hypothesis, the easier the rest of the paper will flow.
#2. Which research design will you use for your final project? And why did you choose this form versus the others?
Some examples include: secondary case study, case study, survey, experimental, simulation, observation.
#3. What Management Question will your final project answer, or provide background into? In other words, what is the problem you are trying to solve, or the mystery you are trying to uncover or investigate? Knowing the issue you are researching will help guide the rest of your proposal.
#4.) What data will you collect for your final project and how will you collect it? Be as specific as possible.
#5. How will you gather the data you are going to collect for your final project? Survey form? Internet or paper? Phone survey? Likert Scale? Observation? And why did you choose this measurement format? Was it because of cost? Convenience?
#6. What kinds of errors might you encounter, and how will you set up the experiment/instrument/collection process to eliminate, or reduce the chance of error coming in to your final project? Refer back to your readings to help answer these questions.

#7. For your final project, tell us specifically how you will get the data. If you're using a survey, what questions will you ask?
If you're doing an observation or experiment study, what questions will you ask the researcher to ask, or what behaviors will you observe and record?
#8.) For the quantitative data you collect in your final project, which scale will you use? Likert? Ranking scale? T/F? Paired Comparison scale? Or is your data all qualitative in nature? This is tougher to analyze, so how will you group responses?
#9. How will you present the findings of your final project? Pie Chart? Bell Curve? Scatter-graph? Histogram? Pareto diagram? Stem-and-leaf display?
#10. What are possible alternatives to your final research project? Why did you choose your research idea over other alternatives?

THE ABOVE QUESTIONS NEED ANSWERED INDIVIDUALLY

The Discussion Questions have been created to guide you through the structure of your proposal. The proposal will be around 15-20 pages, and you will find the sections IN ATTACHMENTS****

-----Here are a few examples of ideas, some from past proposals:

Employee satisfaction wiIl improve as a direct result of implementing a 360 review process

Early referral to the juvenile court of juveniles who commit delinquent acts appears to greatly reduce the likelihood that these individuals will go on to prison in adult life

Bans on Sunday Liquor sales are effective in reducing the incidence of DUIs

Increased scholarship awareness will increase enrollment at xxx college

Implementing a uniform dress code will increase test scores and decrease disciplinary occurances

Cross-training employees at xxx company will result in higher job satisfaction and lower employee turnover

These are just a few ideas to get your business research juices flowing. Start thinking about problems you are aware of at work, or even outside of work, that could benefit from a focused research study.

Please note: you are creating a proposal of how you would do the research to discover the root and possible solutions to a business problem. If the problem is high turnover and you have an idea for fixing it, create a proposal of how you would go about researching the issue. If you would create a survey, how would you give the survey to get valid, objective, honest answers? Would it be a paper survey or interview or computer survey? What questions would you ask? What scale would you use (open-ended or Likert scale questions?)? How would you tally and present the data you collect? You do not have to actually GIVE the survey and collect the results, but describe what you WOULD do if you actually got the approval to conduct your research.
