Compiling an Annotated Works Cited List

After you find your articles, and you think they're good articles with information on the topic, it's time to make your annotated works cited list.  The annotated works cited list should consist of:

  • the complete citation of the article in MLA style
  • a summary of the article (about 150 words)

Tips for Your Annotated Works Cited List

  • Centered on the top of page, type the words "Works Cited."
  • List the articles in alphabetical order by author's last name (or if there is no author, use the title of the article instead)
  • Use the tools available to create your citations: easybib.com and the databases themselves (any article in a library database already has the complete citation attached to it.  Look around on the top, bottom or menus for the MLA citation).
  • Read the article carefully in order to create your "annotation."  Here are a few websites to help you learn about "annotated bibliographies:"
