Adoption of Standardized Terminologies in Practice
A standardized nursing terminology is going to be implemented in your practice setting (administration, education, research, practice). Based on your chosen specialty, which standardized terminology would most likely be adopted and why?
You may have heard of, or even been using, NIC, NOC, NANDA, ICNP, CCC, or PNDS. For this week’s first discussion, imagine that a standardized nursing terminology is to be implemented in your practice setting (administration, education, research, or practice).
After reviewing the literature and consulting scholarly sources, you find some standardized nursing terminologies identified by the ANA. These sources are as follows:
ABC Codes (Alternative Billing Codes)
NANDA Nursing Diagnoses and Classifications
Nursing Interventions Classifications Systems (NIC)
Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC)
Nursing Minimum Data Sets (NMDS)
Perioperative Nursing Data Sets (PNDS)
(There are others that are not listed, these are just some examples)
Based on your chosen specialty, which standardized terminology would most likely be adopted at your practice setting? Why did you choose that particular source?
