After you have read "Burl's" ,

Use the Voice chapter pg 101-121{CH. 5}('A rhetoric of Argument" by Jeanne Fahnestock) as a springboard to reflect on the way the writer or speaker uses different forms of address to engage readers and create relationship.

MUST BE 200+ WORDS

If you are stuck, consider the following questions:

"1. What pronouns is the writer using, and in what way does he use each one?  In what way does he use a personal and/or an impersonal voice?

     2. Has the writer constructed a group to which both the writer and readers belong?  What does the writer assume about readers?  Has the writer constructed a group for the opposition?"
