Overview

The purpose of the Hymn Project is to practice communicating important principles of worship found in the songs sung by the Church. It is important to understand “why” the songs are sung and how they relate to Scripture and biblical principles.

Instructions

In this assignment, you must research the biographical history of the two hymns selected from the Hymn Project: Plan Worksheet that you submitted as part of the Hymn Project: Plan Worksheet Assignment. This assignment will detail the story behind the two selected hymns. The presentation must consist of 10 PowerPoint Slides and should include:

1. Title Slide

2. Introduction: In 40-50 words, explain why Christians should worship the Lord through the singing of hymns. This should be written in a grammatically correct narrative format.

3. Title of Hymn #1, Author, and Composer:

a. Lyrics by: Provide the name of the author of the song’s lyrics. Next, list year of birth and year of death in parentheses (ex: 1942-1991). Then, provide a brief (20-25 word) statement about their life. If an author cannot be identified, you may put “Unknown” for this section.

b. Music by: Provide the name of the composer of the song’s melody. Next, place year of birth and year of death in parentheses (ex: 1942-1991) Then, provide a brief (20-25 word) statement about their life. If a composer cannot be identified, you may put “Unknown” for this section.

4. About this Hymn

a. List four or five historical facts about the writing/composition of this hymn.

b. Use bullets for each fact.

c. Each fact should be grammatically correct and presented in complete sentences.

5. Related Scripture/Pairing Historic Worship with Worship Today:

a. Related Scripture: Provide a Scripture that supports one of the themes of the hymn. Be sure to include the reference for the selected verse(s).

b. Pairing Historic Worship with Worship Today: Suggest the title of a more recent (within the last 10 years) worship song that has a similar theme to its historical counterpart (the hymn song you researched).

10. Bibliography:

Then, select three additional sources from, “Acceptable Bibliographic Sources” (listed at the bottom of this document) or from other allowed resources you may have. The bibliography should be formatted according to Turabian standards.

The presentation should utilize the Hymn Project: Research Presentation Template, which provides a guide for you to insert the required information. It is properly formatted to aid in the preparation of the assignment. You should not change the font style or modify the layout of the slides. The size of the font may be slightly adjusted if additional text space is needed. The idea is to stay within the designated word counts and number of bullet points.
