I feel that my personal mission statement, and short-term goals will help keep me motivated because I loke to see myself succeed. I know that sounds selfish. However, it is what works for me. I like seeing the small things I accomplish that are being used to get to my overall goal. I have a few goals now, both career wise, and personal. A career goal I am working on is switching shift, so I have better opportunities. I am going to align my daily activities to this goal by talking to my managers about me wanting to learn new things, and being open to any opportunities that they can give me. A personal goal I have is to lose weight. I will align my daily activities to achieve this goal by changing my diet to include healthier foods, and going to the gym after work as often as I am able to. Being vulnerable, having an open mind, and considering others when setting goals helps me maintain my goals because it allows me to be more willing to get out of my comfort zone, and take opportunities that I would not normally take. Keeping other in consideration is also helpful because they can support you if you need help, or motivation. I think vulnerability plays a part in problem solving because it gives you the

courage to ask others about their opinions, or to think of different solutions that may be uncomfortable for you.

My personal mission statement and short-term goals will keep me motivated during my academic journey because I am not only doing this for myself; I have friends and family that are supporting me every day, and I use that as a constant reminder to keep going and to keep doing my best. Not only with my academics but with life overall, I made changes to my sleep schedule so I could have more energy throughout the day. That way, I can get more stuff done and feel less fatigue. I feel that being vulnerable, having an open mind, and considering others in your goal-setting process helps you obtain your goals in a more meaningful way because you know that you made the people who supported you along the journey proud, and you get to show them that you did what you said you were going to do, and in the end, you get to thank them. Vulnerability plays a part in problem solving because sometimes to solve something, you have to step outside of your comfort zone and do things that you are not used to or that seem different.

Module Five

Learning Objectives By the end of this module, you will meet these learning objectives:

Module Overview Now that you have had the chance to write your personal mission statement and short-term goals, you must

begin to consider how your goals can help you remain motivated during difcult times. As much as we all

hope that our academic journey will be "smooth sailing,” we all know that we will encounter difcult classes,

assignments, and times in our lives. What matters is that we can identify these difcult days and use the

various support services and personal motivational techniques to help us push through.

You will soon learn that part of taking ownership of your academic success is being open to new ideas,

resources, and concepts. SNHU offers a great number of support services that you may not have known

about prior to this course. Your professors, peers, advisors, family, and friends may also support you. Being

vulnerable might not sound benecial initially, but it can allow you to see similar concepts from a different

perspective. What’s challenging for you might be easy for another, or the other way around. Being

courageous enough to share experiences or take chances and help others can lead to new skills that will

enrich your life.

This module will introduce you to the concepts of determination, vulnerability, and how having an open mind

can lead to new experiences. You will reect on your goals, review your feedback, and determine how your

personal mission statement and short-term goals will keep you motivated. You will also have the chance to

work with your peers to give and receive some positive feedback about personal mission statements and

goals. In addition, you will get to explore various SNHU resources and social supports that align with your

goals. Be open to new concepts, ideas, and resources that may help you become an expert student.

Develop an understanding of how motivation can be used to achieve goals

Locate and explore the resources and supports most benecial to meeting personal goals

Explore the relationship between goal setting and taking ownership of success

Describe how vulnerability impacts problem solving
