Module 2 - Case

RECRUITMENT OF APPLICANTS

Assignment Overview

Signature Assignment: Critical Thinking, Introduced level

In this assignment, your critical-thinking skills will be assessed. The critical-thinking rubric will be useful for this purpose. In this course, HRM401, critical-thinking skills will be assessed at the “introduced” level. In HRM404, they were assessed at the “reinforced” level. Finally, in MGT491 your critical thinking skills will be assessed at the “emphasized” level. The grading rubric for information literacy at the undergraduate level has been developed to measure student success in meeting the HRM401 Case 2 expectations. Rubrics for the other two courses are included in their respective assignments.

Before starting this assignment, be sure that you are familiar with what is meant by “critical thinking.”

Critical thinking is one of the five key rubric criteria by which your assignments are graded. Therefore, you are expected to demonstrate evidence of critical thinking in all assignments. For an overview of critical thinking, first read the Kurland article and then review the chart and watch the video:

According to research by MRINetwork (2015), the current job market is 90% candidate driven. That means you don’t pick talent anymore. Talent picks you. Consequently, finding and hiring ideal job candidates, especially those with in-demand skills, has become extremely hard, expensive, and time-consuming. There appears to be a competition between two focus points: recruiting new employees and retaining top talent.

Every company has a strategy for finding its new employees, but they do not often review their recruitment strategy once it is created. The result is that many companies are behind the curve when it comes to attracting and retaining today’s tech savvy employees because they don’t know what new strategies are attracting workers. It is imperative that every company that wants to stay in business have a recruiting plan that includes several recruiting strategies and continuous review and tweaking of the plan.

Examples of Ways to Source Job Candidates

Every Internet user has access to platforms which executive search consultants or recruiters could once only have dreamed of. Many people talk about LinkedIn—a social network platform where millions of users can display their CVs, preferences, strengths, and professional contacts. This information is accessible to anyone.

Although LinkedIn is definitely the most commonly used platform for social community recruiting, we shouldn’t forget about other social media platforms. Twitter, forums, and blogs in particular provide interesting options for finding promising candidates. Twitter is still underrated as a candidate search tool. All of the more common social media platforms today are now sources for new job applicants, too, including Facebook, Snap Chat, and Instagram.

Other ways to source new job applicants discussed by Martik (2018) include

1. Campus Recruiting

2. Social Media Recruiting

3. Employer Branding

4. Employee Referrals

5. Employment Agencies

6. Job Boards

7. Talent Pools

8. Talent Scouts

9. Guerilla Recruiting

Most of these ways to source job applicants are not new, but they are still useful and provide an option for those companies with less tech savvy HR personnel.

For this assignment, conduct your own research about recruiting strategies by starting with a review of the following:
