DISCUSSION ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS You will complete four Discussion assignments in this course. For each Discussion, you will post one thread of at least 300 words. For each initial thread, you must support your assertions with at least two scholarly citations and one scriptural reference in current APA format. Any scholarly resource cited must have been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources include the course textbooks and articles from scholarly journals. Please avoid the use of websites. Discussion Thread: Self-Efficacy Development in Schools The textbook and the Watch: Self-Efficacy - Dylan Wiliam video suggest that one way of promoting self-efficacy and self-worth is to encourage students to focus on their own improvement, in other words, the idea of self-comparison rather than comparison with others. What common practices in schools encourage students to compare themselves with others? With themselves? What are the impacts (positive, negative, and/or neutral) of these practices? WK 4 DB “Self-Efficacy Development in Schools”

According to Pekrun (2021), there is more capacity for educators’ motivation, passion,

and self-acting to encourage a learner outcome than indicated in the existent factual writings. For

instruction to happen, motivation is an obligatory requirement, and for exceptional teaching, all

three are necessary. It is fair to say that teachers incorporate the three to complement students'

comprehension and attainment of the curriculum content presented for their education. I teach

Masonry I & II in a vocational center and the way I motivate my students is by having class

interactions/discussions on the content they need to learn. After the lecture, I get them in the lab

and show them how to apply the lesson to building a structure from the lesson. After talking

them through what I perform in front of them, they have the task of completing the assigned

project I just built in front of them. Hands-on is a crucial part of educating the students at the

center of most of the courses offered. Together with motivation, I have the passion to teach the

students a trade and something no one can take away from them. Lastly, the projection of self-

regulation I present to the class is the catalyst that pushes the students to want to learn more and

build more structures.

According to Ormrod and Jones (2022, p. 182), motivation is an internal state of mind

that invigorates, guides, and sustains conduct. It is a sense of intention that manages an

individual’s acts toward specific objectives. At the Center, we have opportunities for students in

the Masonry, Carpentry, Electricity, and HVAC programs to participate in building a real-life

house. This is the number one motivator for the students in all the stated programs. The house

through the common steps for building with permits, inspections, etc. After completion and all

other intangibles are met, the house is then put on the market for sale. In the programs at the

Center, there is more of a controlled misbehavior type of atmosphere. The student is engaged,

collaborating with other trades, and getting work completed on time and experience is gained

and retained. Positive psychology is a conceptual point of view that centers on human solidity

and scrutinizes the good and practical aspects of compassion (p. 184).

In an article by Murayama et al. (2022), an investigation was done to study the effects of

intergenerational order of events on high school learners’ maturing of self-efficacy. Results

stipulated that engaging in intergenerational collaborations encourages the development of

juvenile self-efficacy through the participation of interaction with divergent generations in local

projects. In building up the student's confidence the instructors try to stay positive and

encouraging as much as possible. When students prepare to graduate as instructors, we prepare

them for “Enrollment”, “Enlistment”, and/or ‘Employment.” The Bible tells us in Proverbs 22:6,

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
