1.Write an essay on A Doll's House answering one of the following questions:

•  Why is freedom important in the play?

•  How does the play illustrate inheritance, the passing along of traits from parent to child?

•   What is the importance of the title of the play?

•   Is A Doll's House a feminist play?

•   Compare the relationship between Mrs. Linde and Krogstad with that of Nora and Torvald.

•   What is the relationship between Mrs. Linde’s arrival and Nora’s awakening and transformation?

•   Compare Nora and Krogstad. Are there any similarities between them, especially as far as their relationship to society is concerned?

•   How do the characters in A Doll’s House use the words “free” and “freedom”? Do different speakers use the terms differently? Do they take on different connotations over the course of the play?

2.    - The length of this paper is 3-5 pages. Use only 12 pt. Times New Roman font. Double space the entire paper – NO additional spacing anywhere in this paper. Any paper that does not meet the minimum length will receive a failing grade (2 7/8 pages is NOT 3 pages!).

3.  -This paper must follow MLA guidelines. Use your textbook, pages 217-244; Purdue's Online Writing Lab (OWL) at <http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/> (you'll have to cut and paste that address or "google" OWL) or your McGraw-Hill Handbook.

4.     -I expect every paragraph to contain in-text citations, body paragraphs to contain at least two in-text citations. Do NOT use lengthy quotes, paraphrase instead but give an in-text citation to show where the ideas came from.

5.    - I expect every source you use to be included in the works cited page (which is NOT included in your page count). Look to this week's announcements for more info on MLA and suggestions on how to write this paper.
