1. Taking Diabetes to School by Kim Gosselin- This color illustrated book for elementary age children contains an instructive story of a grade-schooler with diabetes who tells his classmates about the disease and how he manages it. The story offers sensitive insight into the day-to-day "school life" of a child with a chronic illness. Includes "Ten Tips for Teachers" and "Kids Quiz". You can also share this book with children if they are learning about childhood diseases. Chapter four of the textbook also talks about childhood diabetes. This book will also illustrate to the children that although people have certain conditions, they are still normal and can be your friend.
