LP101-L1- LEVEL 3
Writing papers comes easily to some, and not as easily to others. Student writing experience can vary. Some students may have entered this program directly from a master's program or have worked several years in between. In fact, between 1987 and 2007, the number of graduate students over the age of 40 and above increased by 87% (Bell, 2009). It may not be uncommon to find that some students may not have written a paper in over 10 years or possibly have authored other works but not necessarily a paper.
Students here at WJC have access to writing support from the Academic Resource Center. It may be helpful as you ease back in to writing papers to contact them and set up a time to review any papers or other assignments that you are using for this program. It is also important to remember to pay attention to ethical considerations such as plagiarism, use of AI, and not using the same paper for different course assignments, copying others' ideas, etc. When creating your reference page, the programs Zotero (https://www.zotero.org) or Mendeley (https://www.mendeley.com/search/) may be helpful to stay organized with the books and articles used for papers or assignments.
This week also covers research information, including how to use the WJC Online Library System and Google Scholar. (https://scholar.google.com) You will also learn about the usage of the APA 7 style for papers and projects.
1. Use technology tools and resources to enhance learning and information management.
2. Demonstrate how to access and employ campus facilities and technology resources.
