Here at WJC we use APA 7 style and format for all our papers. Becoming familiar and comfortable with this style of writing will help you as you move through this program and towards your doctoral project which will be written in this style. This week we hope that you will look carefully through all the resources you have, including online links (bookmark them for later), reference guides, and publications you have access to.
Please remember that you have access to the Academic Resource Center ARC (https://www.williamjames.edu/students/services-resources/academic-resource-center.html) and tutoring to help you with your paper content and APA 7 formatting.
Please be sure to download and save this APA 7 Paper Template (https://canvas.williamjames.edu/courses/11093/pages/apa-7-paper-template-example-copy) it will help you format all your papers through the program.
There are a number of APA 7 Resources that you can use as you are writing papers. For this course we had you purchase APA The Easy Way which can be a tool to look up information, see how to use citations, references, and title pages as well as more advanced pieces of APA 7 formatting. We also suggested that you buy the APA 7 student guide which gives you a more in-depth answers to how to format papers. You also have the larger APA 7 guide that was a part of the orientation required books. All of these resources will help you to find answers to your formatting questions.
This week we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the APA 7 style and formatting expectations by using your APA The Easy Way book as well as for optional reading look through the Concise Guide to APA Style especially Chapters 1,2,9, &10.

Writing Papers and Rubrics
Paper assignments in all your courses at WJC will be handed in using APA 7 style and formatting.
Professors will provide you with a rubric for each assignment.
There are mini-modules this week with resources for you around both rubrics and APA 7 style.
Utilize the APA The Easy Way book that you purchased for this class and refer to your student APA 7 manual or the full APA 7 manual that you may have bought as optional books for this program.
This week there is an assignment where you will start becoming familiar with APA 7 by correcting APA 7 mistakes.
Conducting Research – Searches and Citations
This week we will begin to talk about how to use the WJC library resources.
You can find more information about what is available to you as a remote student, how to contact the library staff and how to connect google scholar to the WJC library.
A good thing to remember is that if you ever find any research materials behind a paywall, please do not pay for them, instead contact the library and see if we have the resource already and if not, how you might get a free copy of the article, journal or book.

Students should make use of the ARC for help, feedback and to strengthen their writing skills throughout the program.
The director of the ARC, Joan Axelrod is available to work with students.
In a few weeks you will also see a video interview from our OLP dedicated tutor and alumni of the PSyD program, Kristen Toohill.
Remember if you are reaching out for help to do it early in the process of writing so that you will have time to work on your paper and receive feedback and tutoring before it is due to your professor.
