RECRUITING AD ASSIGNMENT – 25 Points

The recruiting ad should be complete on 1 8-1/2 x 11 page and to be effective should include the following:

1. Is the job title prominent? (5 Points) The Job title should be easily located and recognizable.

2. Give relevant information about the job. Provide a brief description of job duties. This information should be drawn directly from the job description. Tell enough about the job. Provide enough information about the job so potential applicants can determine whether they are interested or qualified.

3. List the minimum qualities a successful job candidate incumbent need. Include specific requirements a job incumbent must possess. This may reflect educational levels, past experience, and specific competencies or skills. This information

should be readily available from the job specification component of your job description. (5 Points)

4. Be specific about unique aspects of the job. Disclose any pertinent information the job applicant should know. For example, if the job requires extensive travel or experience on a specific piece of equipment, etc.

5. Check the advertisement for accuracy/correctness. Make certain the advertisement is properly written, contains no grammatical or punctuation errors, and is clear and easy to read. Whenever possible avoid jargon and abbreviations that

may be confusing. Review each word to ensure that no terms used may be deemed inappropriate or potentially create an

adverse impact. (5 Points)

Make certain that there is no discriminatory intent or language in your ad. Your ad should appeal to a diverse audience.

6. Be creative in construction of your ad. It should be inviting and draw in a potential qualified candidate.

7. Be certain to include the method by which the applicant is to submit their materials.

You are creating the recruiting ad for your job description which should also accompany your ad as a single

document when submitting the assignment. Be certain you include a job title and the method by which the

applicant is to submit his/her materials. You may or may not identify the organization. Be creative but

restrict your ad to one page. You may employ graphics to make your ad visually appealing.
