INTERVIEW

In this article, is an interview with the manager of Shiners Enterprise a company that deals

with shoe making where information on good management is retrieved.

(On a fine morning, the door in the office of the manager of Shiners Company opens as the [0]

sun rays penetrate through the window. He welcomes me with a smile and a peaceful [0]

handshake).

Manager: Good morning madam? (With a smile on his face)

Interviewer: Good morning too Mr Hurry.

Manager: I hope you are very fine this morning and thank you so much for being our guest [0]

this day; it is well appreciated by Shiners Company. [0]

Interviewer: Am glad to be art of you today and to learn about what management should be [0]

like. It is my pleasure. [0]

Manager: Feel at home. (Heading towards the interview room)

Interviewer: ( Thanks a lot. What do you consider your most important dailyAs we both sit) [7]

task? It is an open question you do not have to dwell mostly on one area. [0]

Manager: That is a good question and what I would say is that I always plan my day based on [0]

the experience of the present time. Every day before I go to bed I always analyse to [0]

check whether I have accomplished the mission of the day if I have not then it is

always time to accomplish it. That is one of the daily tasks that I have to accomplish. [0]

The other thing that I always do is to not only manage the tasks in the company to [0]

help the team I work with accomplish their goals but also lead my team in a good

way. I try being both a leader and a manager.

3

Interviewer: What is your most important task (long term). [0]

Manager: The most important task is the proper management of my team to equip them with [0]

the best practices so that in unison we can accomplish the required goals and work on

the objectives. I think this is what a manager should do. [0]

Interviewer: What are the skills that you mostly use as a manager? I know you have a lot of [7] [0]

skills but I want the ones that you use most.

Manager: The skills that I use mostly are leadership, good communication, and good

organisation

Interviewer: You have mentioned about leadership severally, tell us more about it. Actually, [6]

why should you be a leader yet you are a manager?

Manager: Management has to tag leadership along. With leadership development, a leader is [11]

able to learn their characteristics and if need to change be, some behavioural change

mechanisms are applied. In development of leaders also, coaching is brought about in [0]

the aspect of self efficacy. A leader is also supposed to go through experiential [5]

learning and making a leader develop the ability to formulate a clear image of the

aspired future of an organisation. Here the right attitude towards work and the [5]

employees must be in a leader for proper running of the organisation. It is attitude that

controls everything about a leader.

Interviewer: That is very powerful. How did you become a manager in this organization? [0] [0]

Manager: Before I became a manager in this organization, I was here as an intern while still

in campus. After campus, I worked as a volunteer as a secretary before I still got a job [6]

in this organization. After doing commendable work, I was promoted until I got [7]

myself as a manager. Through all these stages I have learnt a lot. [0]

4

Interviewer: Thanks for your time and for a good job keep inspiring others and make sure [2]

your company is the best.

Manager: Always feel welcomed here once again.

CONCLUSION [3]

From the interview, a lot is to be learnt that good managers should act as leaders and

also should be organised and have good communication. It is only through this way the [2]

objectives are met. A manager should be devoted to make sure that the things they do involve [8]

the goals they are up to. If a manager did not accomplish what they were supposed the [13]

previous day then they should work hard to do it the day that follows. It is only through this [0]

way that change is visible in an organization.
