Major Project #4 – Description foundation class
Practice Improvement - Group Project
For this 3-part project, students will be placed in groups or teams. As a group, students will identify a clinical problem at their place of employment they have experienced and would like to see implementations for improvement to patient outcomes. Each member of the group will bring their own clinical problem to the group. The group will then select one problem for submission.
The three (3) parts of this group project are:
· PART 1 - PICOT Statement
· PART 2 - Literature Review
· PART 3 - Group Presentation
PART 1 - PICOT Statement
PICO(T) is a mnemonic used to help you clarify a clinical question statement aimed for quality improvement. It acts as a framework, asking you to think specifically about different aspects or variables (of what you want to investigate). As you build your PICOT statement, you should make sure that you are clear and specific about what you are looking for. This helps you target the right evidence to use in practice. In some questions, a T(for timeframe) is added to the PICO framework as well to help find a specific level of evidence (PICOT).
P: Patient, Problem, or Population
I: Intervention
C: Comparison
O: Outcome
T: Timeframe, Type of Study, or Type of Question
Be sure to make your question specific by considering the following:
· What type of patient are you looking for?
· Are you using a specific test as your intervention, or a broad group?
· If you are looking for better outcomes, what are examples of those outcomes?
PART 2 - Literature Review
The purpose of this project is to demonstrate your ability to complete an online database literature review. As you group, you will search on a topic of interest using the PICOT question you developed in Part 1. This will contain the needed evidence for your practice improvement project later in Part 3. Students must review at least five (5) peer reviewed, current journals, or research articles related to the selected topic (all must be dated within the last five (5 years).
The group will then write a three (3) page formal paper using a literature review question. The content should answer the following questions:
· What are you trying to improve?
· Why did you select this problem?
· How do you intend to make the improvement?
The paper must include:
·
· an introduction
· Answers the three (3) questions
· identification of the focus of the search - What you trying to improve?
· explanation of your interest in the topic - Why did you select this problem?
· explanation the importance for improvement to the patients - How do you intend to make the improvement?
· a minimum of five (5) references
· a reference page
· APA style Links to an external site. (includes introduction, body, conclusion) with correct grammar and spelling are expected
NOTE: Visit the NUR3805 LibGuide Links to an external site.
· for PICOT description and examples
· Database (websites) for literature searches
· Writing tutorial, and much more
PART 3 - Group Practice Improvement Presentation
The final component of this practice improvement project is the group e-Poster development and it's presentation. The presentation is equivalent to dissemination of the outcomes of your evidence search for evidences.
Students will identify practice areas that may benefit from improvements. The students in the group will select one (1) of the practice improvement topics identified in Part 2 by their group members. The group will review each student’s PICOT statement and the literature reviews information to determine the best one for the group’s e-poster presentation. The group will then prepare and submit the best topic in an e-Poster.
The presentation should include:
a. Examining the nursing problem (5 pts)
b. Correlating the clinical problem to clinical significance (10 pts)
c. Describing the significance towards implication for practice (10 pts)
d. Formulating interventions based on the best evidence available (15 pts)
e. Describing and producing the outcome of the interventions (10 pts)
f. Disseminating evidence-based recommendation for practice. (10 pts)
g. e-poster is appropriately designed not too crowded (10 pts)
h. Graphics of e-poster communicated clearly the intended message (10 pts)
i. Review of literature used as evidence-based research were recent; obtained from respected scholarly journals and peer reviewed (15 pts)
j. Delivery: with clarity; connected with the audience with audience participation (5 pts)
