This is a 7-10 minute informative technical presentation which requires a typed outline, an APA reference list (5 or more sources are required), and a PowerPoint handout (5 or more slides).
Research
Important: Sources must be current (within the last 7 years). Students are required to use at least three (3) sources from the Library’s databases. NCLive is a good database to work from. Go to the Library’s webpage, click on databases, and click on NCLive. At the NCLive page, click on Articles and a listing of several databases can be found there. Type your search term, use key words and several source types such as newspapers, magazines and journals.
PowerPoint
Students will follow the following PowerPoint guidelines:
· Each slide should contain mainly pictures, charts or diagrams with minimal text.
· All slides should have a title and include a relevant picture or visual.
· All slides should be mechanically-sound and grammatically correct.
· Slides should be proofed and revised before the due date. ECC has writing tutors on each campus.
Students should have at least 5 slides (there is no maximum).
The focus of the presentation will be on the explanation of the topic using the guidelines listed below. The presentation should contain the following content; however, structure your outline using the outline worksheet:
· Introduction (Your name and preview of topic)
· Attention Getter (brief)
· Main points
· Examples and explanation
·
Summary (Brief recap of your main points)
·
Conclusion (Final remarks)
