Choose any 3 of 4 the aspects below.

Each topic is given equal weighting and the expected length for each section is approximately 1000 words.

Select one of the areas of focus below, and critically appraise how decisions made by the manager/owner of HoM in this area are linked to overall performance of the property. You should demonstrate an understanding of how decision making can impact (positively and negatively) on operations in individual departments and on the hotel as a whole.

· Yield Management

· Outsourcing

· Staffing

3. Referring to Hofstede’s “Cultural Dimensions” theory and/or Meyer’s “Scales of World Culture” theory, critically appraise the cultural differences which would impact on a hotel manager’s direction of a culturally diverse workforce. This should include an understanding of how the HoM manager may use a variety of management strategies in order to account for cultural differences.

4. Identify all the Stakeholders involved with a hotel that is a franchise.

Taking each of the stakeholders in turn, identify how they might measure quality. Discuss any tensions between the owner(s) and franchiser in terms of the need for quality through brand compliance.
