Unethical Practices in Business

An organization may conduct business in a way that is guided by ethical values. Judging whether an organization is an ethical business may involve a subjective assessment of any of the following:

  • The products and services it offers
  • Its founding priorities, goals, and values
  • Its philanthropic activities
  • Its reputation among stakeholders
  • The way it treats customers and staff

Using the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research two recent examples of businesses engaging in unethical practices. Then, classify these practices into the following categories:

  • Conflict of interest
  • Fairness
  • Honesty
  • Communications
  • Business relationships

Based on your research and the classification, respond to the following:

  • Why do you think the businesses chose to behave unethically?
  • What ethical actions might the businesses have taken and why?
  • What ethical theories may be applied to remedy the actions and why?

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Your response should be thorough and address all components of the discussion question in detail, include citations of all sources, where needed, according to the APA Style, and demonstrate accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation
