Research Review

Select a topic that we are covering in class and research the topic.  Write a 3-4 page paper that includes the significance of this topic for society, the necessary background information that would allow an uninformed person to understand this topic, the basic chemical principle demonstrated by this topic, and predictions and/or recommendations for the future.  The following is a quick list of potential topics: urban air pollution, chemistry of climate change, benefits and risks of nuclear energy, acid rain, indoor air pollution, ozone depletion, groundwater contamination, desalination.  Please feel free to choose from this list or, as we progress through the course, to find a topic that you would like to learn more about.  You will be posting the topic of your paper in our conferences during Week 3, the references for your paper during Week 4 and the Introduction to your paper during Week 5.  More information on deadlines, the resources available for you to use, proper formatting, and a grading rubric can be found in the Course Contents section.

 

Optional - I will be very happy to look at a draft of your research review.  Submit your draft in the Workbook section of our classroom, prior to Friday, Sep 20th and I will have it back to you by Monday, Sep 23rd.  Sorry, but I cannot accept rough drafts after Sep 20th.  I highly encourage you to submit a rough draft.  In my experience, it always raises a student’s final grade.
