Case Study
All You Need Office Supplies Ltd. Order Handling Process (see Case description file)
Your Tasks You have been commissioned by your client to do an analysis of their core business process. This is to be done in two stages. Stage 1 (this assignment) simply models the current process, highlights the current problems and this will suggest areas for potential improvement. Do not make recommendations in this assignment. If management concur with your report they intend to hire you to complete stage 2 (assignment 2) which is to make detailed recommendations for improvement. You should provide a review (aimed at the management and staff of the organisation) of the current process and the current issues that have been identified. You may agree or disagree with those identified issues and suggest other issues not identified (please note that there are many issues/problems in the current process. As for assignment 1 individual effort, you only need to identify ONE which you consider is the most essential and discuss, providing your reasoning). Do not make any recommendations at this stage. The description of the process in your case study has been provided to you. You should firstly
understand the current process and construct the process models (by using BPMN level 1
Notation) which should include both a main process and sub-process models. Each diagram

should occupy no more than one page. For the case provided, to make models readable, you
need some sub-processes. However, how many sub-processes you need depends on your own
model design. You can have sub-processes in the main process, and also sub-processes inside
of sub-processes. It can be multi-layered.
You are allowed to make reasonable assumptions based on your experience. All assumptions
have to be clearly explained in your report.
Model the case study using Level 1 BPM notation. This is an AS-IS diagram. Note that some
details may not be able to be represented precisely using the level 1 palette. You can list these
limitations in the report.
It is always a good idea to use a table(s) to summarize activities for each model (main and
sub-process models) - what are the key steps to complete the activity?
Submission Requirements Just submit a single MSWord document. Archives with multiple files and/or subfolders will not be accepted.
A word-processed report of 1000 +/- 10% words which includes: a) Executive Summary (not included in the word count) b) Table of Contents (not included in the word count) c) Introduction d) Any assumptions made e) Main body:
i) Statement of at least one problem/issue, and discussion, such as Why need to change? What are some of the opportunities after addressing the problem/issue? Any assumptions? Any limitations?
ii) BPMN diagrams (NOTE: for each diagram you need to provide a brief summary of the activities and decisions of each model)
iii) Explain what you need to do to next? and how to prepare the process re- design project. Do not make recommendations on how to fix the current process(es) or problems as you will do this in assignment 2.

You MUST use the Harvard Referencing style throughout your report and include an accurate list of references at the end of the report. You can access the correct style from the library: Harvard System (http://www.swin.edu.au/lib/guides/harvard_system.pdf )
h) Appendices (All process models can be put in appendices.)
Pages of the report should have appropriate headers and footers and should include printed page numbers
Use font size 12 and 1.5 line space
