How to create page numbers in later versions of Word:

· Create/establish your pages (press and hold enter to create several pages).

· Click the “Insert” tab at the top and click “Header”

· Click the Box for “Different First Page”

· Go to the 2nd page and insert the page number in the bottom center

· Right click on the highlighted page number and select “Format Page Number”

· In the dialogue box that comes up, change the page number to Roman Numerals (i, ii, iii)

· Go to the bottom of the 3rd page and click the cursor above the roman numeral that is in the footer (on the page, not in the footer). You select the third page here because it is the last page that will use the Roman Numeral numbers.

· Click on the “Page Layout” tab at the top; then click “Breaks”; click “Section Breaks”; then click “Next Page.”

· On page 4, redo the page numbers at the bottom—highlight the number and right click on it and then format the page # to 1, 2, 3; start the first page of your body with 1.

If the Next Page section break creates another page (and messes up your document), then unclick the “Different First Page” box for the Header; this SHOULD fix the problem.

· ABSTRACT or EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Please write your Abstract (100-250 words) or Executive Summary (about 500 words or one page) here. Please use block style format (left aligned; single spaced; double-space between paragraphs).

INTRODUCTION

Start the body of your proposal here. The first page of your body begins with Arabic numeral “1,” whereas the Table of Contents begins as Roman numeral ii, and the Abstract/Executive Summary page is iii.
