Instructions for the Business Research Project Option:
If the student picks the Business Research Project option, the guidelines below outline the project's expectations:
The purpose of this project is to pick a current issue or force affecting businesses, important to many businesses, and to research it. Examples would include globalization, increased focus on diversity of the workforce, greater competition, etc.
The research performed should focus on history and background of the issue and how it is affecting businesses today.
The remainder of the paper will address the possible trends of the issue [such as increasing globalization or increasing competition] and alternatives business managers have to address the issue.
Like the Business Plan option, there will be project deliverables in weeks 2, 4 ,6, and the final paper submission in week 8/9.
Week 2 Deliverable: Research topic and why it is important for business managers
Week 4 Deliverable: Outline of the paper, including the major headings shown below, AND at least one outline level below each required section heading; student to decide on sub-section headings
Week 6 Deliverable: Annotated Bibliography: this is a summary of a minimum of 4 peer reviewed journal articles the student has reviewed.
Unacceptable sources include Wikipedia, Investopedia, Facebook, Magazine articles, newspaper articles, trade journals, or other non-academic sources.
Typical acceptable sources include: Journal of Economics, Journal of Management, Harvard Business Review, the Economist, etc. If the student is unclear on the meaning of “peer reviewed” journal articles, he/she should contact you’re the Webster University library.
The annotated bibliography must follow the following format:
For EACH of the minimum of 4 peer reviewed articles:
Paragraph 1: summarize the article in one 125 to 175-word paragraph, in your own words; no quoted material.
Paragraph 2: specifically describe how the article is related to your chosen research topic and state which part of your topical outline it will fit into in the final paper
Required Major Headings for Week 4 Outline: the student will fill in AT LEAST one level of subheadings below each major heading. Examples of subheadings are in parentheses next to each major topic. The student should use those and/or others he/she feels are better.
I. Introduction [What is the topic, why it is important….to whom]
II. Review of existing literature [history, background, current company experiences]
III. Impact on business [in the past, now, going forward]
IV. Going forward [projected trends, pending legislation, likely regulation, political pressures]
V. Management options to address likely trends going forward; these could include actions to mitigate risks of the trends or actions to take advantage of the trends
VI. Conclusion
Download the academic honesty certification statement (attached with the Week 8/9 Assignment), include it as a separate file with your business plan assignment and type your name at the bottom where prompted.
