Week 9 Discussion 1 / FROM PROFESSOR: Please respond to the following:

· Based on Chapter 9, discuss two to four (2-4) strategies to use surveys to help a global business, especially regarding ethical behavior, labor relations, and work conditions.

EXAMPLE 1: CLASSMATE #1 : DISCUSSION 1 ANSWER

According to Jolton, Kraut, & Lundby, (2010) there are multinational organizations that use one goal of a strategic for employee survey in which they can collect a uniform metric that can be used as business intelligence, information gathering, or a monitoring measure to determine how the organization is performing and where the organization can most benefit from interventions.

· It is important for businesses to use valid and reliable questions in surveys in which an employee is prepared to address. If a survey is poorly designed it can create more problems than solutions. It would be good to ask questions that the company is willing to answer than questions they are willing to answer because it can disengage employees than engage them.

· Another good strategy is to exploit new opportunities, where leaders gather accurate and up-to-date information on international markets along with well valuable insights to determine if it will have an impact on the economic environment.

EXAMPLE 2: CLASSMATE # 2 : DISCUSSION 1 ANSWER

The ultimate goal of a global organization is its long lasting success. To achieve its goals it would behoove a company to understand the insights of its internal as well as its external guests, and the use of surveys can assist with this. Surveys will give the organization views on how employees measure themselves and the organization on characteristics standpoints. The information gathered from the employees will help the company measure the differences within the global work environment.  For an organization that deals with diverse cultures the use of a survey on ethical behavior will give that organization insight on the similarities and differences of its global employees. The data gathered from the company surveys can find the commonalities of its employees which it can use for creating a climate or changing the environment to achieve its global success. The strategic purpose of a survey that focuses on ethical behavior is one that will benefit the company in multiple ways. A  survey regarding ethics will give an organization the measures on what the varying cultures within the organization values and views as ethical or unethical behaviors. This information is vital in determining its future standards in developing programs that will maintain focus on internal moral behaviors that will affect the companies bottom line success. The strategic objective of a survey on companies labor relations and work conditions is one that will help a company focus on its continuous innovation, and quality work processes, these studies will be more focused on pay, and benefits as well as environmental work conditions.  These studies will help the company to keep and establish work environments that are safe or improve upon safety measures. The overall purpose of any survey done within a company is to determine potential points of risks that will pose threats to its global success. Therefore all surveys should have a particular strategic purpose.

It goes on to explain that by an employee who have confidence in their ability to do the job that they are assigned to is motivated and will more often than not work through setbacks. The article continues by saying that it is nothing like having an employee that does not know what he/she are doing on their assigned job. So, they will have no confident in the jobs they have to carry out. Lastly it explains that you have to build confidence by telling them that they are doing a good job and you must give them thorough feedback.
