For your first paper, we will fulfill a diversity outcome of the Common Academic Program. Please analyze how the television show The Simpsons treats race, socio-economic class, gender, and or sexuality. You may focus on one or all of the topics for your paper. Feel free to consult any of our text for the paper or do outside research using the library catalog.

I highly recommend using Google Scholar for this paper. Please consult three scholarly, academic sources that support your arguments.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

How is the culture of “Whiteness” portrayed in the show? Is “white privilege” seen? How or how not?

How are character who are people of color portrayed? Is this fair, accurate, or negative stereotypes? What are the producers, writers, and artists making a statement about with the satire?

How are males treated? Is this accurate or fair? Why or why not?

How are females treated? Is this fair and accurate? Why or why not?

How are capitalism and America’s class structure portrayed? Once again, are these representations fair and accurate or not? What is the satire saying with these characterization?

How are LGBTQ&A rights treated in the show? How is sexuality treated in general?
