Title: Three Dimensionality
Time: 3 hours. Planning for designs begins during the first class and is completed on the
participants time. During the second class work on the good design begins. Designs are
completed outside of class time.

Learning Outcomes:
Use one-point or two-point perspective, and atmospheric perspective, to create a 9” x 14”
abstract design of an interior or exterior space that has the illusion of depth by:
1. apply a linear perspective technique to organize shapes in space, 2. apply atmospheric perspective techniques to increase the illusion of depth, including:
• decreased intensity or saturation as colours recede in space, and • diminishing details as shapes recede in space,
3. demonstrate creative application with coloured pencil crayon, such as: • vertical strokes, • working in circles, • heavy burnishing
4. demonstrate understanding of basic colour theory by using a complementary colour scheme,
5. create value contrast by using a range of tints and shades of each colour without using black for shades, and
6. apply pattern to increase visual interest and/or texture to illustrate the surface characteristics of shapes.

Day 2
30 Ask participants to work with a partner. Distribute worksheets for peer evaluation and self reflection and explain how to complete the worksheets.
Provide written peer feedback. Reflect on feedback received before proceeding with design.

Day 3 and Portfolio
10 Work with groups of 6-8 for final informal critique of design. Provide instructions to add the design, thumbnail sketches, and completed worksheets to portfolios.
Share completed work with small group offer comments to peers. Complete worksheet and add it, sketches, and design to portfolio.
Post-assessment
The final design becomes part of the portfolio and is graded with the portfolio. A portfolio rubric
is provided above. The design is graded out of ten marks as follows:
The 9” x 14” design: - includes linear perspective to to organize shapes in space in an abstract design of an interior or
exterior space, (2 marks) - includes atmospheric perspective to increase the illusion of depth, including:
• decreased intensity or saturation as colours recede in space, (1 mark) • diminishing details as shapes recede in space, (1 mark)
