It is very true that social suffering is the main cause of addiction of various kinds. Human beings do suffer from various causes such as poverty, unemployment, discrimination, and anxiety which lead them to addiction. For instance, one of the causes of behavioral addictions is the presence of social factors such as depression, substance dependence, social anxiety as well as lack of social support. People who suffer from behavioral addictions are always tired, bashful, and shy and have other kinds of addictions. According to young (2004), individuals that have behavioral addiction show certain symptoms that have the same consequences such as those of alcohol and drug addiction.

It should be noted that social factors such as discrimination, gender inequality, racism, and unemployment are known to cause social suffering such as depression, social anxiety and eventually addiction. Therefore, social suffering can be linked with addictions of various kinds. Addiction has cost a lot to the society in one way or another. For the adults, addiction has cost them jobs and marriages while for the youth, addiction has cost them their creativity and education. The best that a society can curb the menace of addiction is prevention. It is said that prevention is better than cure. Prevention programs are designed to boost protective factors and eliminate or reduce factors of addiction. If research based substance use addiction prevention programs are implemented by schools and communities, addiction will be greatly reduced. The program will help the parents and teachers and healthcare practitioners shape the society’s view on drug and substance abuse that cause addiction.

For response one, I would say that the respondent has done a nice presentation. However, it should be noted that people are unhappy for a particular reason. They have faced discrimination, or they just got fired hence they feel unhappy. It is good that the respondent has pointed that the society should not be judgmental. This is a fact because judging others makes them shy away from sharing their problems. It is also a fact that those affected should not be jailed because that is adding a problem on top of the other.

From the second response, the respondent has clearly explained the question at hand. It is indeed the social factors which end up causing social suffering. For instance, the respondent has given an example of expensive drugs used to cure illnesses. Due to poverty, individuals cannot afford the drugs hence social suffering sets in. Prevention by the society is indeed the best solution to curb addiction before it does the society great damage.
