Spherical Mirrors
Please use for this Lab Report the simulations from the WileyPlus Assignments (Ch 25 and 26 Videos and Simulations Resources)
Type up your equations and results and upload your document on ecampus. No hand writing please. Keep all the values in “cm”.
An image formed by a mirror is real if it is in front of the mirror, formed at the intersection of real rays of light (the object and the image are on the same side of the mirror). An image is virtual if it is behind the mirror, formed at the intersection of extended rays of light (the object and the image are on opposite sides of the mirror).
Open the Concave Mirror simulation from Ch 25 Videos and Simulations Resources. You can listen to the” Audio Intro” and open the “Notes” and then:
1. Click on the red dot (focal point) and blue arrow (the object) and or the green dot (the mirror) to change the focal distance of the mirror to
f= 115cm and object distance x=390cm.
Please notice that you can adjust the height of the object (blue arrow).
An image, the white arrow, is either in front or behind the mirror.
2. Calculate the image distance and the image height (WRITE FIRST the EQUATIONS). The values are on the simulation page, but it is a good exercise to do the calculations!
f= 115cm and object distance x=390cm

3. What is the meaning of “-“ in your results (image distance or image height)?
4. Describe the image: Underline or highlight one of each of the following:
-real or virtual
-inverted or upright
-smaller or bigger than the object (or equal)
REPEAT for
f=100cm and x>200

11. Describe the image:
Choose Plane Mirror simulation. Adjust the position of the object at couple of distances from the mirror. Describe the image:
Lenses
An image formed by a lens is real if it is behind the lens, formed at the intersection of real rays of light (the object and the image are on opposite sides of the lens). An image is virtual if it is in front of the lens, formed at the intersection of extended rays of light (the object and the image are on the same side of the lens).
Choose Converging Lens simulation.
Click on the red dot (focal point) and blue arrow (the object) and change the focal distance of the lens to
