Risks and Rewards
In any organization, there must be given changes that must be met to make the organization a better place for everyone to stay in. However, when making these changes, there are given risks which need to be thought of; for instance, there is probably going to be changes in personnel. The association historian and documents curator of the history collection is not working as per the expected standards and therefore, there is a big need to have her changed. There may be risks that would arise due to the changes done.
For example, the person who replaces her may face strong opposition from her so that she can defend her seat. Not only this, but also that the woman was only having cooperation and collaboration challenges, and at times not meeting deadlines (Nieuwhof, 2013). The person who succeeds her may lack the experience of the work and at the end all the history that has been collected for many years could be lost simply. On the other hand, things will become better because the communication in the organization will be improved giving room of discussions on how to improve their situations and organization.
The succession plan should mean that all the members of the organization are present and they must agree who should succeed the historian by the show of voting. While this is a good way of choosing a leader, it may lead to other challenges such as the sitting person winning and having to refuse her will be looked at personal level.
There are many benefits to the organization if the person chosen meets the deadlines, and being collaborative. In any organization, collaboration and teamwork have been used as the qualities to reaching goals. With these, the communication of the organization will also be improved and generally the records of the women will be kept will and that history will remain to be read by the coming generations. There are some costs that must be incurred to overcome risks. For instance, getting a different office for the new Historian is important and other systems like the PC system which can enable her to keep the record better. Also, removing the other from office in a professional manner means that she is appreciated because even with the failures, she has done her part in serving the organization for 30 years plus. Approximately, an expenditure of $6,000 will be used in making all the changes. This includes relocating items that are in a storage facility, a new computer, and redesigning the history display.
Changes may also need to be done on some departments, such as finance for better management of funds. While it may be a better decision to have someone, who is a better manager, things may turn out to be totally different (Heathfield, 2017). The financial officer may also begin misappropriating funds of the organization. This may lead to regrets in the organization, or even stoppage of aids and contributions. The person assigned to finance should be well researched and found to be honest, trustworthy and loyal to the organization. If the changes are made, it may be a reward since communication barriers will be overcome, bearing in mind that the person will know and follow hierarchy.
The clients will also get the information they want in time and the services will generally improve for them. This will help create a good bond between the organization and the clients. Generally, the reputation of the organization will be better, because the clients and stakeholders will be served without any problems and challenges.
