The student is expected to 3.4(C) use models to solve division problems and use number sentences to record the solutions.

Engage (10min)

Problem of the day

Work on the problem of the day:

Cathy read every day this week. On Monday she read for 35 minutes. On Tuesday she read for 10 Minutes. On Wednesday she watched TV for 20 minutes and read 14 minutes. How many minutes did she read altogether?

Explore (10 min)

Introduce division.

Explain why we divide? We divide to replace repeated subtraction.

Do the graphic organizer to teach math language over division. Dividend, divisor, quotient.

Explain(20-25mi)

Division as sharing.

Each student will have math cubes. The student will work through problems like There are 12 pieces of food and there are 4 dogs, How many pieces of food will each dog receive? (We are making groups from a total) by using the cubes. Students will be translating these in to math equations.

Elaborate(30min)

Problems in math book

Students will work problems 5-10 from the math book. 13-15 for students who understand and finish quickly

Evaluate(throughout)

Teacher observation

The teacher will walk around asking questions, and observing the students as they work through the lesson.

Modifications or Accommodations :

Learning disability: He will be working one on one with the Special Education assistant.

He will have fewer problems and he will be allowed to use his math chart as stated in his IEP

Extensions/Enrichment:

As students finish there book work they will be working on the memorization of their 4 and 5 multiplication facts.
