eSOMA CASE SCENARIO
eSoma, a well-‐known and reputable online education services company is faced with the
risk of its reputation being tarnished by external media rumors and internal employee
dissatisfaction. Specifically, there is a perception of discrimination and unfair remuneration
practices including but not limited to mid-‐level supervisors not being paid adequately based on
years of experience, number of years working in the company and education. There are rumors
that there is gender gap in terms of salary and titles in certain departments (sales, purchasing,
advertising and engineering). There is also a complaint that salaries are not the same across
departments, and that, Supervisors are not paid equitably based on the number of people they
are responsible for.
The Board of Directors of eSoma is tired of such rumors and it believes that competitors
are behind them in order to tarnish the company’s image. The board decided to look for an
expert who would study such rumors, provide statistical evidences and suggest sound
managerial decisions.
