Major Concepts of Health Care Administration

1. Affordable Care Act

Koh, H., & Sebelius, K. (2010). Promoting Prevention through the Affordable Care

Act. New England Journal of Medicine N Engl J Med,1296-1299.

This article talks about how our perception of health is skewed because people are not truly taking the preventative steps necessary to keep their health in good condition. This article discusses the ways in which the Affordable Care Act responds to disease prevention. Access to clinical preventatives becomes a focus in the Affordable Care Act as well as wellness being promoted in workplaces. Overall the article discusses how the health of people depends on their community.

2. Global Health

Snow, R., Guerra, C., Noor, A., Myint, H., & Hay, S. (2005). The global distribution of

clinical episodes of Plasmodium falciparum malaria.Nature, 214-217.

This article discusses the global distribution of malaria. In order to determine the locations of this disease we can look at the where the disease has traveled to from the past. The article points out that the majority of locations this disease is found in are poor areas. Africa seems to be a main source of this disease. It is also a disease that is underestimated because people are uninformed about the risks it can cause.

3. Health promotion and disease prevention

Cole-Lewis, H., & Kershaw, T. (2010). Text Messaging as a Tool for Behavior Change in

Disease Prevention and Management.Epidemiologic Reviews, 56-69.

As our country begins to shift the focus of health on disease prevention instead of disease cures this article gives an interesting perspective on how we might achieve this. Text messaging was pointed out as a tool for behavioral change because it is commonly used, quick, and inexpensive. Many studies were discussed that show the benefits of text messaging as a method of disease prevention.

4. Medicare and Medicaid…
