J.S. Bach and Franz Liszt were both accomplished keyboardists. However, their styles were very

different. Despite the vast differences, there are some overlapping similarities between these two

musicians.

Write a short essay comparing the works of J.S. Bach from the early 1700’s and Franz Liszt from

the 1800’s. Explain how the two composers were similar and how they were different.

This is not a biography of the composers. This is an analysis of the similarities and differences of

their work. You may want to include the influence of culture and society on their music. Try

using their most famous compositions for your comparison. Overall, focus the essay on their

music.

Your paper should be 2-3 pages in length in proper APA format while citing a minimum of 3

sources. Include a reference page. Ensure you properly organize your essay including an

introduction with thesis statement and a conclusion. Avoid writing in first-person. Do not use

Wikipedia or Ask.com as a source.
