Individual Project: Data Analytics Strategy Application Paper

Objective: The objective of this assignment is to apply the information in the course to your particular enterprise. Your objective is to relate the class material to a real-world situation. Your goal is analysis; not simply relating an event!

You should develop a data analytics plan for your company based on your knowledge so far. Clearly identify the current state and issues, and explain how the principles discussed in class were, would have been, or could be relevant. Be specific! Your approach should be analytical, demonstrating critical thinking at a strategic level, and applying the course discussion and readings. You should look at practical issues such as implementation and demonstrate a deep knowledge of your situation. You may want to spend time with the group in your firm to understand the issues. Your final paper should include a list of reference sources.

Resources: This is an individual assignment. Potential references are IT personnel in your company, books, course materials, and academic literature. The ND-L library is a good source of references for academic and managerial literature.

Requirements: Each person is to submit the following items.

1. A typed, double-spaced paper. The length is expected to be about 10 pages, including references, diagrams and tables.

2. Your paper should be submitted through Moodle.

3. 3-5 references including the course readings. You might also use other sources, including people in your company.

4. Your paper should be organized in the following manner:

a. Executive Summary: one page or less

b. Introduction. Clearly state the problem, issue or topic.

c. Problem Analysis. Divide into several sections to analyze your topic. For example, you could identify current and future data sources, questions that could be addressed, data science team needs, vendor possibilities, computer architecture needs. Use analysis frameworks from the course and references to the class readings. You should have references embedded within the paper. The simplest way to do this is to use parentheses, such as (Phillips-Wren, 2005) within the paragraph, and alphabetize the references at the end of the paper. You might demonstrate the main problem or the solution graphically with a diagram, table or graph.

d. Recommendations: Give your strategic recommendations. They should be clearly supported by the problem analysis.

e. Threats to Success. Summarize the main threats to the successful implementation of your recommendations. Explain how each is mitigated by your plan.

f. References. At least 3 references as discussed in #3.

Grading: Points will be awarded based upon the following criteria and content.

1. 80% of the points for the depth of your analysis and relation of the class work to the situation. For example, a problem that is only tangentially related to IT will not receive a high score.

2. 20% of the points for the overall presentation, including spelling, grammar

(Activities done on class are evolver, risk analysis, tableau data visualization and I work for IRS)
