The chief operating officer of Decision –Tech Corporation is called Mr. Nick. According to a number of studies, Mr. Nick is described as ambitious people who always work word to ensure he achieves the best outcome in his endeavors He always ensures that he closes deals at Decision Tech Corporation and that the company remains ahead of its competitors at all times. Without proper scrutiny of Mr. Nick a person would think that Nick is a mean guy that frequently loves annoying his colleagues especially during decision-making or in other situations where disagreements may arise. This paper discusses the strengths and weaknesses of Nick as well as his inattentions to outcomes.
According to Nick, his greatest strength is being able to push his competitors without fear during negotiations so as to maximize his results beyond his set goal. This has been so positive to Decision - Tech Corporation since they have managed to build a stronger image among its competition. Nevertheless, Nick has a weakness of arrogance and meanness to his work mates, something that greatly bothers his workmates. Despite this weakness, Nick defends himself by saying that he is now using self control method which is now helping him to become a more polite person before people as well as very respectful while around his colleague.
Initially, we noted that Nick had an issue of giving results attention. Nick for long has only been working hard to secure more promotions as well reach his goal of becoming a CEO. Unfortunately he has been ignoring his team, not minding about how they perform; whether they fail or they succeed. Nevertheless, this negative behavior of Nick has changed after meeting Kathryn who pointed out to his these issues. Ever since this meeting, Nick is now re -prioritizing his goals. Nick began trusting his colleagues. Nick also began assisting his colleagues to succeed too through assisting the Company gets past its competitors.
During my initial reading, I viewed Nick as a single – loop learner since he was annoying all the people that disagreed with him, most especially Mikey. Nick later became a double loop after Kathryn advised to him. After Kathryn’s advice, Nick began looking after his team, and even began respecting their ideas and opinions. Nick also began teaching the team the skills that he had learned through asking them to help in other departments. This way Nick turned the Company into a family where people help each other and take care of each other.
In this paper, I will also discuss Mikey who was the controller of the marketing department. Mikey was almost perfect in her doings. As a matter of fact, she was among the best workers in the valley; nevertheless, she had her imperfections. The greatest problem that Mikey had was social interactions. Mikey always had the belief that all people were wrong except her. For this reason, Mikey would become very rude to people during meetings, and would always criticize other people’s performances. In this paper I will discuss the learning style of Mikey as well as her lack of trust and the tendency of playing the victim always.
It always seemed as if Mikey would be the person that would take the leadership of Decision – Tech Corporation owing to her good quality work and her marketing persistency as well as her efforts of getting new workers. Unfortunately, this did not happen since Mikey became a single loop leaner that never considered other people’s opinion and feelings important. She also developed a negative attitude of taking opinions from other people not to be important
The greatest weakness of Mikey was distrusting her colleagues, something that made so hard to work effectively with the team mebers. According to Mikey, her collauges did not trust her and did not appreciate her efforts. This was unfortunately a lie since the team always appreciated her work as well as her high performance. Despite the team members loving her work, they did not like how she treated them and mistrusted them. It is for this reason that they shunned her since they never wanted any conflict to arise.
Unlike in Nicks case, Mikey behaved differently when Kathryn approached her and decided to talk to her concerning how she was bringing damage to the team and upset her workmates, she decided to play the victim. She told Kathryn that she would make it hard for her and for the company through the help of her husband that is a lawyer. In short, Mikey was proving her innocence through portraying that the company and Kathryn were against her. This was a clear evidence of her insecurity, which led her to decisions being controlled by her emotions hence making her feel weak, which made her fake confidence. Kathryn nevertheless understood her weakness and therefore accepted her resignation instead of firing her.
In conclusion, teamwork can be challenging especially at the beginning but it continues to be easier as the team members work harder to make it work. People working in a team should work on knowing each other to ensure that they understand one another better. With better understanding of each other’s character, it would be easy to make decisions and to work in unity.
