Introduction: Company Overview

FedEx Company is an American multinational carrier delivery services corporation whose headquarters are in Memphis, Tennessee. "FedEx" is an acronym of the firm's original air division Federal Express, which was in use from 1973 to 2000. Therefore, the company has a good reputation because of the overnight shipping services and also for being a pioneer in a system that possibly will track packages and run real-time updates on package position to help in finding the lost bundles, a feature which has been implemented by many other carrier services globally.

The FedEx Company is therefore primarily concerned with the imports and exports, but later it diversified and started offering other services apart from the express shipping (Birla, 2012). It is has designed express distribution, and it is the global leader in the industry providing rapid, reliable, and time bound delivery to more than 220 countries and lands which connect the 90% of the markets which determine the world's GDP in 1-3 business days.

FedEx Global Marketplace Competition

Upon formation of the FedEx Company, its vision was to change the way delivery services worked before 1971, something which it successfully did. The Company founded a new business which has been leading its peers since then (Crandall, 2008). However, due to the fast-paced growth in the mobile technology and e-commerce globally, smartphones, apps, and connected devices have all created pathways for the fast developing market for on-request delivery services. This is because the customers can demand better, faster and clearer services regardless of the provider.

The new generation is thus, less sensitive to the supplier or brand and it has become open to third part deliveries; hence, e-commerce companies like Amazon and Uber have tried their hands on the business delivery. It's upon the FedEx Company also to track the new entrants to remain relevant in the marketplace competition. To do this, the FedEx Corporation has to focus on the ground-based and same day delivery, locally and internationally delivery services.

The FedEx has a plan to improve the profitability and secure the long-term viability of our business in years to come by focusing on the things which they best do and the areas in the business which have the greatest potential for growth. They include the following.

Competence of staff roles and process

The FedEx Corp. is implementing several initiatives which will improve the efficiency of the staff and work process. It includes; streamlining main processes to reduce time and resources they require. Prioritizing important activities and eliminate the redundant functions due to technological improvements and market drove changes and also generating greater efficiencies in our global sourcing programs. All which will be done in a voluntary buyout by the employees for them to adjust to the organization structure.

Modernizing the Air Fleet

It is also a competition strategy; the company will replace the old aircraft with the new ones, more cost effective, and fuel efficient aircraft. The 757 and 767 programs will, therefore, create a generation of the air fleet that will be designed to considerably to reduce the operating costs.

U.S. Domestic Transformation

The FedEx Corp. is making adjustments to the U.S. network to improve the efficiency in different ways such as: executing a new technology and process to improve flight and crew scheduling. Improve on the pickup and delivery operations to maximize on-road efficiency, refining the aircraft maintenance process and consolidating the stations and facilities. Lastly, is to execute the process to improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicles and aircraft fleets without compromising the service quality to the customers' expectation.

International Profit Improvement

The Company is diversifying in its businesses as a way of capturing its growth from all the parts of the global cargo market, counting priority, ocean, economy, and air forwarding with the critical inventory of logistics. For instance, leveraging the European expansion for greater densities and lower costs, and integrating and attaining synergies on recent acquisitions.

Workforce diversity at FedEx

At FedEx, we know that workforce diversity is the key driver of the success of the business (DeCenzo, 2016). The Company is diverse as the world it serves. It all about connecting people, cultures, and places, to meet the needs of a diverse customer base, thus reflecting the organizational diversity as it celebrates all communities worldwide.

The philosophy of the company is to the people, and respect for everyone is the daily business practice. The diverse workforce has, therefore, enabled FedEx to better serve its clients and compete in the global markets. In the U.S. more than 40% of 225, 000 domestic members are from the minority ethnicity, and overall, 29% of management positions are minorities.

FedEx's diverse workforce is evident during the hiring, training and promotion practices to meet the customer base needs in an organization. For FedEx to ensure that workforce diversity continues, it recruits at historically black colleges and universities. Also, though organizations and publications on the websites which mostly serve the African-American and other ethnic minorities. For instance, outreach via the National Black MBA Association, Black Collegian, etc. FedEx supports education and scholarship programs to the most disadvantaged families using organizations such as UNCF, Hispanic Scholarships Fund, and the Magic Johnson Foundation.

FedEx ethics and morality

Business ethics is about how the organization can decide what is wrong and what us right in the workplace. This comprises of treatment and relation to its customers, employees, services and products. Pastin, M (1994), states that a highly ethical organization will run smoothly and take part in its good. At FedEx, the ethical issues are dealt through an ethics program which comprises of the code of ethics, getting employees to be aware of it and monitoring its implementation.

FedEx code of conduct, this code emphasizes in promoting lawful and ethical behavior and abiding the laws whenever operating (Lamb, 2016). Secondly, Fairness and respect for employees, FedEx ethical business policy provides an equal opportunity and protection against harassment at the workplace towards the employees. Fair completion, FedEx disregards anti-competitive practices and also discourages its employees from in engaging in conversations with competitors regarding pricing policies, discounts, customers, and terms of sales.

FedEx technological innovation

The technological innovations of FedEx are PC-based automated shipping system which was later named FedEx PowerShip, FedEx Tracking, which allows clients to keep tabs on the status of their packages in transit and the first electric trucks to be used in U.S. parcel distribution business (Venuvinod, 2011). In 2017, they are underway in launching the use of alternative jet fuels that will feature sustainable ingredients including algae, scrub brush and tree pulp.

Nevertheless, the FedEx Company's best practices are the HR practices which does great work. The company has made a great reputation for being the most employee-friendly workplace internationally. Thus, this has created a huge productivity and profitability of the organization.

Practices related to work attitudes in U.S organizations

The primary characteristics include those who define an individual for instance race, religion, color, disabilities, age, national origin, sexual orientation, citizenship, gender identity and expression. Employees are thus fortified to forwards questions regarding this area to the management. After which severe disciplinary actions will be followed for violation of the policy including employment termination (Carr-Ruffino, 2007). So, the strategies for addressing these effects are:

· Involving all employees in formulating and executing diversity initiatives in the workplace

· The promotion of diversity in the positions of leadership, this practice will provide visibility and realize the benefits of diversity in the workstation.

· Fostering attitudes of openness in the Company, this will encourage employees to express their ideas and characterize a sense of equal value to all.

· And also utilize the diversity training as a tool to shape diversity policy in the organization.
