System Description

A supply chain management is limited to the functions that they have within their position. I learned this first hand basis while serving in the military. Working as a Unit Supply Specialist in a Military Police unit, I have an experience with dealing with the different supply components that it takes to get materials as well as receive material. Within a logistics procedures there are several sums of information and work experience that take plenty of time and efforts to comprehend the process of logistics. With working with an organization you have to understand their organization and their supply chain, that way if there are any places of improvement needs there can be corrections made. In this paper we will examine the supply chain, logistics system and the theoretical aspects.

With dealing with manufactures business, most of the resources are brought directly to the distributer to then go to the manufacturer’s plant to properly facilitate the production process. There are supply chains that do not operate on the push systems. The organization considers the number of orders that is being asked from the client before their production and evaluates the raw materials. The plant stores their raw materials in a warehouse which is considered there holding area. Once the receipt is ordered, the organization receives that order, production then begins, and the orders are usually completed in batches.
Production starts once the order is receive until the very last piece of the material is used for the order. Nevertheless, the materials that are being used, the process that the products go through, all undergo the same output of being cleaned and welding the materials at their different levels. These is the process that used until the its completed.
WIP or Work In Progress applies when measuring the range of the production from start to finish. It is an essential key that business managers are able to clearly identify the manufacturing cycle and the phases of production that included in the cycle. The quality assurances team ensures that the production process is applied correctly in the process of production. Once the product is completed it is move to a warehouse where is it package, and then located to the logistics area.
“For productivity purposes, human labor is considered an input (i.e., workers receive wages or salaries), and most humans are resistant to productivity suggestions that focus on reducing their wages or salaries (i.e., input). As such, productivity improvement efforts in logistics are often directed toward increasing the amount of output while holding input constant,” (Wood & Murphy, 2011). Author Braithwaite (2010), believe that the key functions of logistics, which organizations should acknowledgeable to when operating supply chain management consist of:
· Develop customer services.
· Reduce the amount of inventories.
· Stop the undesirable write offs.
· Develop the awareness of the organization.
Within the logistic there are two primary types of systems, which also include 3PL and/or 4PL organization split and united. “A progressive unified structure would often incorporate the fundamental and developmental activities, as well as the other logistics activities life the need for forecasting and procurement,” (Wood & Murphy, 2011). Need for forecasting, customer service and external transportation are fundamentals that are provided by the marketing department. Nevertheless, providing of the facilities, packaging, internal transportation, facilities, and equipment are controlled by the manufacturing department. In the accounting department will assist in the divided logistics of control and monitoring of the clients. It understood that the fragmented logistics system deals primarily with knowledge and development and the unified logistics system deals with primarily warehouse management, transportation, and inventory.
Logistics has to be able to cater to the demands and needs of the clients. There are several forms of services and/ or goods, which are based off of the clients ability to pay and the desire of what is wanted. There is a risk with every production step that is taken within the production system. The rationale for this was to discuss the flow of the materials through the production stage and supply chain. The process started with the understanding of resources from the ordering the raw materials to transporting them to the clients that ordered them. “This kind of explanation is the primary demonstration of the supply chain,” (Braithwaite, 2010).
