Why Do We Work?
Work, going by its generic definition, is the understanding of an action by the use of energy. In our lives, we are constantly working, working hard at school, in our workplaces, to improve our talents, or any other venture that one engages in. Society encourages one to work hard and values people who have excelled in their various ventures. However, one wonders, why do we work? Is it for the benefits that come with it such as money or praise, or is it for our self-fulfillment? One should work for their personal fulfillment as only that will provide the true purpose of work.
I have various reasons to back my claims. Working for self-fulfillment will make one choose the career that they are built for. The main reason for the great lack of job satisfaction among today's working class is their motive for having the career in the first place. Most people choose jobs because they have high pay yet don't have a passion for the job. Lack of job satisfaction has been proven to be the leading cause of a low-quality life and stress for most young adults. People should follow their passions and not money (need example). People who have job satisfaction are healthier, work harder, and have a better work life balance. One's motivation to work should, therefore, be self-satisfaction so as to enjoy a better life.
One's working years begin at early adulthood and end at late adulthood. These years are the most life changing years of the individual. This is when one makes life achievements and places their mark in society. In old age, one gains life satisfaction when looking back at these years. When one works for money, they will sometimes do anything that will leave a mark in society. They will also not live a good life as they will never truly feel fulfilled with the life that they lived. They will, therefore, not be able to truly enjoy their old age as they will feel that their life has been wasted. (need example)
One who works for their passion leaves a lasting impression in the society (need example). They will be proud of their achievement's, satisfied with the life they lived, and will have a good old age (need example). One should, therefore, work for self-fulfillment and satisfaction. It is clear that we should work for self-fulfillment and satisfaction.
Working for self-fulfillment will give us job satisfaction and will allow us to make an impact on the society and make great achievements that we can be proud of in our old age. Whereas money is a good motivation to work, it does not allow one to develop to their true potential (give specific detail) I believe that one should work for their personal fulfillment as only that will provide the true purpose of work.
