What does literature offer an individual?

Literature offers and individual a form of escape from reality what I mean by that is, if a story is

well written than an individual can trigger his or her imagination and believe he is there

witnessing the story unfold. I have read all the Harry Potter books; it is literally the only books I

have ever finished in my life. The Harry Potter Books made me feel like if I was part of the

story, I use to imagine myself in the story along with all the characters.

How has the importance of reading changed from earlier eras (pre-digital/audio/visual

media) to our present day? Do you think we read differently now than we did in prior

generations?

Reading has definitely changed I think the newer eras prefer visual media than actual reading.

People rather watch films than read the actual story from the book. I personally rather read the

books, because I use my imagination more than when I see the films.

Do you think Clugston’s quote is valid? How have perceptions regarding the value of

literature changed, if at all? Yes, I believe the quote, “a powerful curiosity about human

relationships and how to cope in the world in which we find ourselves” (Clugston 2014) is

valid. Societies turn to literature to learn more about cultures around them. Literature has proven

to be valuable to learn about past and present cultures.

What causes people’s perceptions regarding the value of literature to change?

I think perception has changed, people are often too busy with today’s fast pace life styles,

people forget that they grab a book with a good story than can help them imagine themselves in a

fantasy world.
