Article Review and Presentation

1. Instructions

1) Find an article which is related to international business.

2) Review the article based on course concepts.

3) Write a review paper. The length of the paper (the body of paper) should be 2-3 pages, double-spaced. It should include the following sections: Executive Summary, Review, and Conclusion. The following is an example paper structure:

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

(The summary should be less than one page. It may include 1-2 paragraphs)

REVIEW

Event #1 _______

(First, choose an event from your Executive Summary. Then, identify a course concept and establish a link between the concept and the event. Finally, explain why the event occurred based on the concept and what you learned in class).

Event #2 _______

CONCLUSION

(Conclusion should be no more than a half page)

4) Present your paper to the class. You will prepare 5-6 PowerPoint slides, including one “Summary” slide, two “Review” slides, and one “Q&A” slide.

5) Hand in your Paper and the article(s) in class. Email your slides to me before 9:00am the day of your presentation.

2. Paper Format

a) Margins: One inch on all sides (top, bottom, left, right)

b) Font Size and Type: 12-pt. Times New Roman font, except for the title page

c) Line Spacing: Double-space throughout the paper.

d) Spacing after Punctuation: One space after all punctuation.

e) Alignment: Flush left (creating uneven right margin)

f) Paragraph Indentation: 1/2"

g) Headings

· First level heading: bold, all caps, left aligned

· Second level heading: bold, left aligned

· Third level heading (if applicable): italic, left aligned

h) Text citations: Source material must be documented in the body of the paper by citing the author(s) and date(s) of the sources. Example: (Wirth & Mitchell, 1994)

i) References

· All sources included in the References section must be cited in the body of the paper (and all sources cited in the paper must be included in the References section).

· First line is flush-left, subsequent lines are indented 1/2"

j) Page numbers appear at the upper right-hand corner of the page, 1" from the right edge of the page

1. Article relevance (10%)

1.1 The article is related to international business

1.2 The article is “current” (dated after 6/30/2016) and published in a popular magazine or newspaper. If the article does not include sufficient information, you may use additional article(s) of similar topic.

1.3 Hand in the article(s)

2. Article Review (Paper) (60%)

2.1 Summarize all important points of the article

2.2 Choose two events mentioned in the article and establish links between the two events and two course concepts (one concept for one event)

2.3 Provide comments on each event (why it occurred) based on the course concept.

2.4 The body of paper should be 2-3 pages long, double-spaced.

3. Professional Writing (10%)

3.1 Paper is appropriately divided

3.2 Relevant, concise and clear

3.3 Free of grammar and spelling errors

3.4 APA Format (See “Paper Format”)

(This is a writing-intensive class. If the paper does not meet the writing requirement, grade will not be assigned)

4. Presentation (20%)

4.1 Prepare 5-6 slides. Among them, one should be used to summarize the main ideas of the article(s) and two slides to address the course concepts (one slide for one concept).

4.2 Send your slides one hour before class

4.3 Present your ideas concisely, clearly, and persuasively.
