Rock Identification

Due Week of April 3rd

For this assignment you will need to locate the rock garden in between the Live Oak and

Eucalyptus Hall (see map below). There are numerous rocks located at this location thanks to the fervor

of the geology undergraduate and graduate student body. I have attached numerous photos of individual

rocks in this garden. Use these photos for reference to locate the rocks in question. Your task is to identify

each rocks listed with a photo. Only print up the answer key and turn that in, no need to print all of the

photos with it unless that helps you identify them for whatever reason, but I do not need them. My foot is

in each photo for scale to which may help you locate each rock. Do not break or otherwise alter the rocks,

identification can be done with simple observation as they sit.

For each rock listed, answers the questions associated with each photo by circling each correct

answer for Rock Type and Composition and then writing in the rock name. Your book may be invaluable

for this exercise. It is ok to use other resources as well. The listed rock name examples below are not

necessarily representative of the rocks in the pictures. They are randomly selected names to give you a

sense of what I am looking for.
