Since both the variables the amount of church attendance (No_attend_church) and the a score representing understanding of Christian doctrine (Total_Score) are scale variables the coefficient of correlation is an appropriate measure of relationship between them and the scatter plot is appropriate to display the strength and direction of this relationship.
