CH202 Design Project for Extra Credit

As future engineers, it is important for you to be able to interface with computer-aided design

(CAD) programs. Therefore, I would like to offer an extra credit opportunity for you in this class

involving CAD.

In this extra credit opportunity you will have the opportunity to do a 3-dimensional drawing of

a piece of scientific apparatus or other concept in your chemistry book for some extra credit.

On top of that, you will have an interesting piece of design for your portfolio that you can use to

impress future interviewers and bosses. Finally, your drawings may be used in future iterations

of the class to inspire incoming future engineers to mix art and science in ways that only

engineers truly can.

The grading criteria for this assignment are as follows:

Task Points Allotted Accuracy of the model 3 points

Difficulty of the model Meaning multiple-piece and highly complex models such as one of a spectrometer will be worth more points than a model of a singular atom

4 points – more points may be allotted by the discretion of the instructor

Short explanation of the pertinence of the model to the chemical experience

2 points

Quality of the images submitted 1 point

For these extra credit points, please submit .dxf as well as some choice TIFF images of your

apparatus to [email protected] no later than the start of business (9am)

on the Monday of week 10 of the term. Please include your explanation of the model in the

text of the email.
