The source I selected for this week’s forum is encyclopedia.com. The exact article is titled “The Muscular System” published by The Gale Group, Inc. I have multiple reasons to believe the source is a credible one. My first reason to believe this, is that encyclopedia.com provides references from many credible sources such Oxford University Press and Columbia Encyclopedia (encyclopedia.com, 2016). Also, unlike many other sites located on the web, encyclopedia.com does not allow any random individual to rewrite/edit any of the information provided. Encyclopedia.com has multiple copyright laws to their content, which in turn leads me to believe it is a credible source. Another reason I believe the information provided is credible is because the information is published by The Gale Group, Inc. Gale is a company that supports higher education, and partners with libraries worldwide for accurate and precise information. It has been in business for over 60 years (Gale, 2016). The third reason I believe this article/source is credible is due to the information written. While studying multiple sites, I have come across much of the same information that is provided in this particular article. Lastly, I find this source credible due to the many different links provided from other sites and books in regards to the information given. This source references six books that were published in regards to the muscular system. Each of these were written by credible authors which whom I additionally completed research on. One example would be the authors of the book titled “The Muscular System” written by Alvin Silverstein, Virginia Silverstein, and Robert Silverstein. This particular book is taught is grades sixth through eighth. Along with six books, there are also five separate links to confirm the information stated from encyclopedia.com. One of these links includes the official site for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

For this week’s source, I have selected to use http://www.innerbody.com/. This website contains information about the human anatomy and shows many body systems from skeletal to the human reproductive system. I believe that this source is credible because it ends in “.com.” This shows me that it is a commercial website and that it goes through a more strict editing process. This website is also copyrighted and prepared by an Anatomy and Physiology Instructor named Tim Taylor. This shows that an expert in the Anatomy and Physiology field had edited and prepared this for educational use. Websites that are copyrighted makes it harder for random people to edit and change information without a review. Innerbody.com is also recognized by The New York Times, Dr. Oz show, Discovery education and many others. This website seems professionally written with good grammar and layout. It is very organized and easy to read and obtain the information. Overall I think that this website is filled with credible information because it is prepared by an expert physiologist and that is recognized by many others. However, this source does not have references. The lack of references makes me wonder where they got all the information they did to put this website together. All in all, I think that this website is well put together in a very educational and organized way. It has a lot of information on different body systems and parts. I believe that this website is credible and can be used for personal and commercial education.
Overall this website is full of useful and in-depth information, and I feel confident that this source is credible. Feel free to let me know if you guys agree or disagree with the credibility of this website and if not please let me know why you think it is not credible.
