LEADERSHIP – SELF-ASSESSMENT PAPER: You will be required to write a paper on your own leadership style. This paper should be no more than 15 pages (no less than 10 pages) and should be double-spaced, using 12 pt Times New Roman font and 1 inch margins on all sides. This paper will be based on the self-assessment tests that you will be required to complete throughout the semester. The conclusion of this paper should be focused on ways to improve your leadership effectiveness. The paper should be in a narrative format, not just a list of your self-assessment scores and their meaning. However, I do want to see the scores of your self-assessment exercises in the paper as a part of the narration.

Guidelines for the Leadership Self-Assessment Paper

The leadership self-assessment paper is designed to be an honest interpretation of your own leadership style based on the self-assessment exercises you will complete throughout the semester. The two-fold purpose of the paper is 1) to identify your leadership style and other leadership-related skills and abilities, and 2) to develop a plan to improve the areas in which you consider yourself to be deficient. The paper will only work if you complete the assessments honestly. By no means, am I implying that you are dishonest people, yet we have a tendency to make ourselves look good when answering surveys that are related to our own personality/leadership style. Here is the proposed layout of the paper (the page numbers in parentheses are related to self assessment exercises from the Lussier/Achua textbook that you need to complete in order to develop your portfolio):

1. Introduction – A little about yourself (not your entire day-by-day history, rather a brief introduction that probably takes about a couple of minutes if you meet someone you don’t know and introduce yourself (verbally) to them).
