Unit 4 Assignment: Team Assignment – Virtual Team Best Practice

This Assignment will assess your knowledge based on the following Professional Competency

Outcome:

PC-1.1: Engage in a team setting with professional integrity and respect.

Virtual Team Success (DeRosa & Lepsinger, 2010) is based on a 2008 study conducted by the authors

involving 48 virtual teams in 16 organizations spanning several industries. As a result, the book is linked to

research and appropriate for graduate studies (Details of the study are provided in the appendix). Statistics

cited in many of the chapters are taken from this study.

At the same time, the authors have attempted to write the book for practitioners. It is written to be a go-to guide for managers and leaders. Each chapter stands alone. You can turn directly to a chapter that addresses an immediate need or interest. Note in the Introduction on page xxvii there is a quick reference guide for using the book. You can find a challenge or question of interest and turn directly to that chapter.

The book will be used at a text in GM500, GM501, GM502, and GM503. In each of these courses, there will be a Team Assignment in Unit 4. Sections from this book will be linked to that Unit 4 in those courses. The focus of the Assignment will be determined by the assigned unit reading; however, this book will be used as a part of the Unit 4 Team Introduction as a means of providing best practices and support for your virtual team. The book will prove to be a handy reference moving forward. Keep it accessible to quickly reference in the future for issues or problems you encounter with subsequent virtual teams.

Team Exercise

Northouse (2016) at the end of every chapter gives the reader the opportunity to review each leadership theory with a review of Strengths and Criticisms. This Team Assignment will build upon Northouse’s (2016) review with a PowerPoint presentation debate. The proposition is: Be it resolved that the Situational Leadership approach is valid. Your professor will assign your team either the proposition affirmative or proposition negative.

Criteria

1. The presentation should be a minimum of 12 slides, not including the title and reference slide. Each

slide is required to also include a script of what would be said at that point in the presentation. The slides should be easy to read. The introduction slide should clearly articulate the purpose of the presentation and why it is of value.

2. The presentation should have a minimum of four academically credible sources from outside of the

course materials. Your sources should be follow proper APA format. (Review the APA formats found in the Kaplan W riting Center. To access the Kaplan Writing Center, select this link.).

3. Review the Rubric below to ensure all points have been captured in the Presentation.

4. Note that team participation will be assessed by the quality of each team member’s contribution to the

Assignment, and the completion of the Team Peer Evaluation Form. The Team Peer Evaluation Form is located in the Assignment page of your course.

Directions for Submitting your Assignment

1. Upon completing this Team Assignment, please delegate one member of the team to submit the

Assignment to the Unit 4 Assignment Dropbox by the end of Unit 4.

2. Individually, each member of the group completes the peer evaluation form and individually submits the

peer evaluation to the Unit 4 Assignment Dropbox by the end of Unit 4.
