There is currently considerable uncertainty with regard to the future of the economy and the political environment. This assignment is to give you practice in developing an investment strategy and convincing a potential investor why that investment strategy will provide an appropriate risk adjusted return. To provide you with some guidance I am asking you to research an investment strategy that will capitalize on the current political and regulatory uncertainty. The audience for this strategy is the general public. This may require you to explain fundamental concepts that the general public may not be familiar with. Support your investment strategy with authoritative sources and original analysis. In order to produce the highest quality, most polished finished product, you are expected to visit the OSU Writing Center (123 Waldo Hall) to have a draft of your report reviewed. If you feel you do not have adequate command of the English language to produce a high quality document, please work especially closely with the writing center as this assignment will in part be graded on “polish.” Things to consider when developing your investment strategy are:
1. What is the level of risk of the investment strategy and are there any unique risks? What could go wrong with the strategy?
2. Why do you expect this strategy to outperform? Format The report should be a maximum of four pages, double-spaced, with 11 point font and 1” margins. If you are providing a summary table (for original analysis), this does not count towards your four-page maximum. You should use a minimum of three authoritative sources for your report. These can be online references. You must cite your references using APA citing convention. Your reference list does not count towards your four-page maximum. At the beginning of the document in a section clearly labeled “Summary” you must include your core investment thesis. This summary is strictly limited to 100 words. This is your elevator pitch which is intended to hook the reader into reading more about your investment strategy. Submission Please submit your report through Canvas by the deadline – March 6, 2017, 5 p.m. Grading There are a total of 20 points available for this report allocated in the following way: 4 points: Ticket from Writing Center. Please make sure that you set up an appointment to visit the Writing Center, and plan your writing such that you have sufficient time to incorporate any suggested changes to your draft before submitting a final version to me. You may use the Writing Center to brainstorm ideas for your report, and/or to have them review a draft.
