Objective 14: Promote career development, contemporary practice and lifelong learning opportunities.

Becoming a licensed physical therapist assistant is just the beginning…What happens next? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? How do you get there?

1. Identify 3 professional goals that you would like to accomplish in the next 5 years.

2. Create a timeline for your five year development plan that demonstrates how you will work toward those goals

3. Include at least 3 continuing education courses that help you attain your professional goals (ensure that the CE course is at the appropriate level of instruction, has the appropriate evidence & is taught by person with expertise

4. Consider PTA Recognition of Advanced Proficiency, leadership development, other certifications, etc (look these up in APTA website)

5. Plan should include your strengths and weaknesses to implementing your plan (ie. resources/opportunities, time frames, costs)
