Exploring relationships among variables

Do permanent staff more likely to recommend be smokers than females? Use the chi-square test

for independence to compare the proportion of permanent versus casual staff (employstatus) who

indicate they would recommend the organization as a good place to work (recommend).

A study was conducted to assess the satisfaction levels of staff from an educational institution.

Staffs were asked to complete a short, anonymous questionnaire (see attached) containing

questions about their opinion of various aspects of the organization and the treatment they have

received as employees. Using the data set (it is a real data file condensed from the study)

provided try to answer the following questions:

1. What percentage of the staff in this organization are permanent employees?

2. What is the average length of service for staff in the organization?

3. What percentage of respondents would recommend the organization to others as a good place to work?

4. Generate a histogram to explore the distribution of scores on the Staff Satisfaction Scale (totsatis).

5. Use the chi-square test for independence to compare the proportion of permanent versus casual staff (employstatus) who indicate they would recommend the organisation as a good

place to work (recommend). Interpret the results.

6. Conduct correlation analysis to assess if there is a relationship between the length of service and employees’ levels of satisfaction with the institution? Interpret the results.
