Summary
(Shannon Gausepohl, September 19, 2016) Writes an article on the ways in which one can improve their lives. According to the article, work is demanding. One is expected to show up daily at work and completes all their tasks in some instances being forced to work 24/7 especially due to the availability of smart devices. However, according to the writer work should not bleed in one's career as it encroaches both their mental and physical life. If workers don’t give themselves time to think and relax, then their productivity decreases. Therefore one should recognize the role of work, create and stick to a daily routine, unplug regularly, take a vacation, and make time for themselves.
Discussion
The concept of work-life balance talks about the idea of prioritizing between work and lifestyle (Harvard Business Review on work and life balance, 2015). Work, in this case, refers to one's career and lifestyle are the pleasure, leisure, family, spiritual development, and health. The article talks well of how one can be able to live a healthy and happy life by avoiding to straining too much and forcing work. It is therefore very vital for every worker to make sure that they build support networks at work and home, traveling and selective relocating, defining oneself, managing technology, and collaborating with your partners. Prioritizing on such things your family and balancing all the above not only make you happy but also define whether you will be successful. Working tirelessly does not indicate one will be successful (Burnie, 2013). As I have seen, a support network and collaboration are crucial.
The Bible also extols the of idea work-life balance in various scriptures, but in our case, we shall just expound on only one of the scriptures. Martha was distracted with much serving, and the Lord answered her that she was anxious and troubled about many things (Luke 10:40-42 Revised Standard Version). As demonstrated in this particular writing, the Bible strongly advocates for a balance between work and one’s lifestyle. On this particular day, Martha receives Jesus into her house. Her sister Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to His word. Here she is exercising her spiritual and work balance. On the other hand, Martha is busy serving the visitors, and she complains that Mary is not helping her on this work. Jesus approaches her and advice she leaves those things troubling her. In other words, Jesus wants her to have a balance
