Formal Report Outline Template

Using the following template, write a topic sentence for each item in your formal recommendation report outline.

· Introduction: Businesses around the world tend to think about one thing when it pertains to how they can further their industry, and that is global expansion. If done correctly, global expansion can create a foundation for the businesses[This is a plural possessive noun. The apostrophe belongs outside the "s."] future, as well as ensuring that the profits are skyrocketed[Delete "are skyrocketed ." Rather use " skyrocket."] in the meantime. Businesses will always want more, and at some point, global expansion is the key to this expenditure.

Purpose: The purpose of this report would be to discuss the benefits, as well as the drawbacks, of when a company decides to expand on the global level.

Background: The background of this report would be that the business is undergoing expansion thoughts because they are growing at a rapid rate. The industry of the business would be mechanical, such as making frames for vehicles or building cargo containers for trains. Both of these markets are highly developed around the world and therefore would have a great takeoff for success.

Problems: One of the biggest challenges that occur when businesses expand is the cultural differences, such as languages, time management, and even employee relations. It is easy to get lost in the set of accustom business manners and forget that things are totally different in the new location. Communication, both verbal and nonverbal, would be hands down the most challenging aspect that would need to be overcame[Check verb tense: overcome]. The conversion of the USD to other currency can be bad because some countries have a higher exchange rate . On the other hand, it could be good for those countries who have a lower exchange rate. Global expansion can also result in a rise in unemployment as well. This is a result of companies discovering that labor is cheaper overseas. The need to import products will also be cut. This in turns[Check spelling: turn] saves a lot of money while increasing profit.

· Discussion: The main points that we will discuss in regards to expanding our mechanical industry globally is the cost, cultural barriers and effects on employment in the US. As far as the cost, we will have to focus on converting US currency to foreign currency such as Euros, AUD, Pounds and etc. In some countries, the US dollar has a higher exchange rate. A product that is worth $1000 USD but 5 pesos won’t sell as much due to the cost of living in that country. The business still has to pay for the material and labor. If the exchange rate is lower, we may not make a higher percentage back per product but we are capable of selling more. This may affect the US negatively as far as employment because it may tempt business owners to produce their product in places other than the United states[Capitalize] as the cost of labor will be cheaper. This also eliminates the need to import goods which cuts down cost. The cultural barriers is a challenge because the US based company must be willing to abide by the practices and business ethics of other nations without causing conflict.

· Solution: The solution to successfully expanding globally would be to research the areas in which we are expanding. This includes: [Use a colon only after a complete sentence to direct attention to an explanation or summary. Delete or replace unnecessary colons. (Refer to Colons from the Grammar and Writing Guides in the Tutorials & Guides section of the Center for Writing Excellence for more information.)] understanding the culture, business practices and having an interepreter to eliminate the language barrier. It also includes making sure the business knows what vehicle frames or cargo contatiners are in demand for the area we want to expand to. It also includes measuring the cost of the materials for the items. There could be two different areas of production. A US factory which strictly caters to US sales and UK sales as the profit is more promising. For third world countries, we could make factories in those areas to cut down cost and still make great profits.

· Conclusion: Expanding a business in any market will be difficult, when the maket is a global one it will be even more of a challenge. In order to successfully accomplish this task, one has to take all of the research done and work base[Check spelling: based] on it, always keeping in mind that each market will have it[Check spelling: based: its] challenges. Finding the right soluction [Check spelling: solution] will be the key to a successful expansion.

· Recommendations: The topics that have been presented are the following: What are the challenges of global expansion and the beneficts[Check spelling: benefits] of it. The recommendation will be to continue the research on global expansion, and evolve as the industry does.

You have a good start, Team A! You’ll need some resource facts and statistics to back up your statements of how expansion can achieve your goals. Assign someone to proof your work before submitting it.
